The Young Ladies  Choir   of The El Paso Choral Society, directed by Yvonne Marmolejo, is now recognized as one of America's finest choirs.  Each girl has been awarded a $7,500 scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music.  For the past six years, these girls, now 8th grade through 12th, have been thrilling El Paso audiences in performance with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and El Paso Opera.  While performing with the America Boy Choir, March of 2009, the ABC Music Director Fernando Malvar Ruiz raved about the beauty and musicality of the singing of the Young Ladies.  The week of October 19, 2009, while gaining the attention of national audiences, the 18 voice choir performed for an audience of nearly 1 million on the NPR national broadcast From the Top. On December 13, 2009, the Young Ladies Choir performed as guests with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and in July of 2010, the singers will be singing a mass at the Vatican i n Rome, Italy.  In July of this year the Young Ladies performed in Rome, Florence and Venice, Italy.  Their first performance outside of El Paso was singing a mass at the Vatican in St. Peter's Square.  What a great beginning to the touring choir!

Message from the Youth Choirs Music Director

It is exciting to see the development of our girls, but the real thrill is hearing the high performance level that these girls are attaining.  Their view of the world is changing, and their own aspirations are growing.

Eight years ago, many of these girls were singing as children in performances with El Paso Opera and The El Paso Symphony.  Now, eight years later they are disciplined, commited and musically trained young women, still singing with major music organizations, but now as seasoned performers.  Many have spent years at the El Paso Conservatory developing their musical skills, taking private voice and piano lessons.  Their commitment to musical training, their talent, and their passion for music, are what have made this choir so exceptional.  It is our goal to assist these young women in their dreams of becoming professional singers, instrumentalists, conductors and teachers.

Sincerely,

Yvonne Marmolejo
